 3d Printing Project for All.

 The Fully Automatic and Highly Decorative Watering or Irrigation System for Plants and Flowers.

 This is truly a fun project for all, old and young, family or schools and home or on the work. For water tank for the plants you just use

 recycle glasses or bottles you already have or easily can get. Then all you need to do is print the Water feeder components for the

 size of your plants. All the drawing files are in the 3d print format STL.

 There is 9 different package each with drawings for a specific glass or bottle connection thread, and in each package there is drawings

 for different plant sizes and feeding systems. There is very detailed and clear manual or documentation that is easy to navigate in each

 package, see link on the different package on this page. All drawing files are specially designed for 3d printing, they are very easy to

 3d print. Straight forward, No support material, No special Infill is needed just solid. For more about the background behind the project see

 This package of drawings only works on Soda Bottles. Package 1

 is speciel for small bottles like 0,5 Liter But fit all bottles with this

 type of capsule thread. The difference between Package 1 and 2

 (small and large) bottles is the distance between the capsule

 The Technical Explanation: When the plant have a Basic plastic pot.

 The System is basically a Interface between a water tank, Plastic bottle or

 a glass and the plant and it works by simple physics, vacuum,

 water surface tension and gravity. The primary water feeder component is screwed

 onto the water tank, a Glass or Bottle filled with water and then turned

 180 degrees upside down, the water will stay in the glass or bottle because of the

 vacuum. The primary water feeder component deliver water from the Glass or

 bottle to a small water reservoir, below the plant, only about a level of 2-5 mm

 water, which the plant pot is raised above, with a distance piece component.

 When the water level goes down air will be let into the glass or bottle and thereby

 automatic keep the level of water in the reservoir.

 Then a secondary water feeder system will automatic deliver a controlled amount

 of water from the reservoir to the plant soil and plant by a soil spear.

 It works on all kind of house plants, flowers, spice plants, bonsai you name it.

 No electronics, tubes or hoses, focus is on the plant, it is small and don’t take much

 space and look nice on a window shelf. The system deliver water for the plants for

 days or even weeks without any attention. And it is very easy to see when the

 water tank should be refilled.

 

 

 The Technical Explanation: When the plant have a Clay pot.

 The Technical Explanation: If your are using Clay plant pots or have the

 opportunity to replant from bacic plastic pots to Clay pots, then you

 dont need anything else than the primary water feeder, only hae to print

 one component, just place the pot directly in the water reservoir.

 the clay will soak the water and the soil and the plant will get moisture

 from inside of the clay pot.

 However some plant need more or less water than what the clay can deliver

 then you can use the same system as in the plastic pot by using the

 distance piece and secondary water feeder (soil spear).

 

 Background for this project:

 I decided to design this automatic watering system for plants simply because my few plants were dying around me all the time, somehow

 the watering of the plants always ended last on my To Do List. I was thinking (or maybe hoped) that I was not the only one with this

 problem:). A fun 3d printing project for all, old and young.

 When I started, I set the following main design criteria:

 1: No electronics, tubes or hoses.

 2: Focus should still be the plant, so as small as possible.

 3: It should be a nice design, look nice on a window shelf.

 4: The system should deliver water for the plants for days or weeks without any attention.

 5: And it should be very easy to see when the water tank should be refilled.

 6: It should fit on all kind of plant pot sizes.

 7: The feeding system itself should be adjustable for different plant types.

 8: And finally it should be very easy to print 3d

 This is the solution I ended up with:

 My first challenge was the water tank, when it should be transparent when water looks nice with plants or flowers and you can see how

 much water there is in the tank.

 And since it is still very hard to 3d print with transparent filament with a nice results, then I came to think that we are

 surrounded by recycled glasses and plastic bottles and many of them are even looks very nice. So I decided and go for recycle glass

 and bottles however I have made a tank for 3d printing as well for those who want to try out with transparent filament.

 So it ended up with a system partly building on old well known physical principles like vacuum, surface tensions in water, well you can

 see all the details in the different packages.

 I succeeded with all 8 main design criteria, however ended up with a project that took more than a year, but also a lot more fun.

 The reason why it was so time consuming was the combination of options, should fit the different glasses and bottles and the different

 plant sizes and different water needs and also have some fun solutions with multiple plants on the same tank.

 But that's precisely the advantage of a 3d printer, if only you have all the drawings then you can just pick the one you need and print

 as many you need. Then I have made a very clear documentation that is easy to navigate.
